18 May 2023 - The Pre-2023 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) Workshop was held for two days from the 17th May to 18th May 2023 at the Banquet Hall, Prime Minister’s Office organised by the Prime Minister’s Office as the Special National Coordination Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Brunei Darussalam.


The workshop, attended by the members and secretariat of the Special National Coordination Committee on the SDGs as well as representatives from the Government, United Nations agencies, the private sector, Non-Governmental Organisations, academic institutions, youth and financial institutions; discussed preliminary findings from the Second Voluntary National Review (VNR) Report for Brunei Darussalam which will be presented to the 2023 HLPF in July 2023. Various discussions also focused on the way forward which would help to accelerate the SDGs through post-VNR actions. This includes strengthening SDGs ecosystem, data availability and integrated actions for the Sustainable Development Goals.


The workshop opened with remarks from Yang Mulia Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad, Permanent Secretary (Wawasan), Prime Minister’s Office as the Chairperson of the Special National Coordination Committee on SDGs. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the unwavering support and commitment of various stakeholders in supporting the nation’s achievement in the SDGs. She further encouraged all stakeholders to explore opportunities to enhance the development of SDGs in Brunei Darussalam through solid collaboration and innovative solutions towards a better future for all.


A keynote speech by Her Excellency Karima El Korri, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam highlighted the readiness of the United Nations to support Brunei Darussalam in implementing the SDGs. She also touched on the global SDGs progress which is affected by the current world situation. On this note, the upcoming 2023 HLPF and the SDGs Summit in September 2023 are expected to set new priorities into the 2030 Agenda including stronger political commitment and global cooperation.


The Pre-2023 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) Workshop concluded today (18th May 2023) with the Presentation of the Main Outcomes of the Workshop followed by the Presentation of Certificates of Appreciation. The main outcomes of the workshop are proposed priority actions especially in strengthening data monitoring and evaluation, improving the SDGs ecosystem, and promote whole-of-nation actions to build sustainable behaviours and mindset.
