Brunei Darussalam’s delegation attended the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023 (HLPF 2023) held from 10th to 20th July 2023 in New York, United States of America. This included a three-day Ministerial Segment of the Forum and the High-Level segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from 17th to 20th July 2023, led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II.

Under the theme - Accelerating the Recovery from COVID-19 and the Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at All Levels, HLPF 2023 reviewed in-depth the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals). Side events held concurrently, one of which was Voluntary National Review (VNR) Labs, as a platform to share experiences in preparing VNR. Brunei Darussalam's delegation was also invited as a panellist to share experiences of collecting data and deepening the Data Analysis in VNRs.

On the 17th July 2023, Yang Berhormat Dato delivered Brunei Darussalam’s statement at the General Debate of the Ministerial Segment of the 2023 HLPF, as a contribution towards building momentum for the SDGs Summit in September 2023 with Heads of States. To renew global ambition for a sustainable future, Yang Berhormat Dato shared Brunei Darussalam’s emphasis on several key points. Global communities must strive to develop solutions by building solid and resilient SDG partnerships, ensuring that no one is left behind. On this note, Yang Berhormat Dato added that the global ecosystem for a conducive implementation of the SDGs must be further strengthened, particularly to enhance monitoring and evaluation for better understanding of current landscape and mobilisation of actions.

Yang Berhormat Dato also shared Brunei Darussalam’s support of the call from the Secretary-General of the United Nations that fundamentally supports the expansion of opportunities and capacities to access resources needed to accelerate SDGs progress. Such access must be facilitated to bridge development gaps, fortify sustainability, and ensure equitable nation-building for all. In his concluding note, Yang Berhormat Dato affirmed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to deliver shared promise with the high hope of putting the world on a better and more sustainable path.
