The Secretariat to the Special National Coordinating Committee (SNCC) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Brunei Darussalam, recently held an interactive and insightful briefing session with 65 students from 13 academic programmes at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).
Organised as part of the 2nd TVET Entrepreneurship and Innovation Challenge, themed “Sustainability and Innovation”, the session aimed to spark fresh ideas and encourage students to think about how they can contribute to a more sustainable future. The initiative supports the broader goal of nurturing entrepreneurial mindsets while highlighting the importance of sustainability in shaping future industries and communities.
Throughout the session, the SNCC SDG Secretariat introduced the students to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Brunei’s national progress in implementing the 17 SDGs. The discussion also highlighted the crucial role of young people in tackling pressing global issues, from climate change and inequality to responsible consumption and innovation.
By making the SDGs more relatable and accessible, the Secretariat hopes to inspire students to take an active role in building a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable Brunei. The session also encouraged cross-disciplinary collaboration, showing how students from different fields can work together to come up with creative and impactful solutions.
This engagement reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness of sustainable development among youth and investing in their capacity to lead positive change. With continued support and initiatives like this, Brunei is paving the way for a future where everyone, especially young people, can play a meaningful role in shaping a better, more sustainable world.
